Daphne's Headcovers

Global accelerator chooses two Phoenix-area businesses for its program.

Accion Fast Track, a global nonprofit accelerator, announced that it selected two Phoenix-area companies for its program.

Accion’s program works by offering small businesses mentoring, financial support, and helping companies create viable growth plans.

Aventa Senior Care is an in-home senior care service based in Scottsdale, providing professional nurses for the elderly and those with dementia or Alzheimer's across Arizona.

Daphne’s Headcovers in Phoenix manufactures animal-themed golf club covers, providing cats, dogs and other animals to protect clubs.

Roberto Valdez-Beltran, Accion market manager, nominated both the companies for the fast track program.

“They were both poised for growth,” said Valdez-Beltran. After working with Aventa and Daphne’s Headcovers, Valdez-Beltran said he wanted the two companies to take advantage of the opportunity, which provides personal and group mentoring.

The program kicked off in June and will end in February 2016.

Jane Spicer, owner of Daphne’s Headcovers, said the Accion fast track program has provided an outside look at her 32-year-old business and encouraged her to keep growing.

“It’s like jet fuel,” said Spicer.

Jeff Geidt, founder of Aventa Senior Care, said the program has helped him manage his company’s growth.

“We’ve grown about 40 percent each year for the past five years we’ve been open,” said Geidt.

Geidt said Aventa has grown from 10 to 100 employees in the company’s lifetime and the Accion fast track program has allowed him to manage these changes.

“It’s allowed us to stay on steady financial ground,” he said.

“I hope at the end of the program to look back, and it will be like a movie,” Spicer said. “I will be able to see where I was to where I am.”
